Definitions

IUI Intrauterine insemination.
This is a procedure where a sperm sample is collected from your DH (by masturbation) and then the sperm is "washed" to separate it from the semen. It is then injected through a catheter directly into the woman's uterus on the day of ovulation. This procedure is used for people with a low sperm count or less than average motility. It is also used if the woman has a cervical mucus problem. The injection places the sperm right in there so they don't have to rely on themselves to make the trip on their own, but they have to find and fertilize that egg once it's released. Usually the Dr.s try this procedure from 3 to 6 cycles, and if it's not successful than you move onto IVF (in vitro fertilization). - courtesy of Dina's post
HSG

Hysterosalpingogram
The purpose of an HSG is to determine if the woman's fallopian tubes are open. It involves shooting dye through the cervix and uterus to see if it spills out the fallopian tubes into the pelvic cavity. - courtesy of TCOYF pg. 177

It was also to check the size and shape of the uterus as well as to see if the tubes are open. - courtesy of Carol

Doula

A postpartum Doula is a non-judgmental woman with a quiet presence in your home. Most postpartum Doulas are mothers themselves who have breastfed their own children and enjoy motherhood. By giving emotional and breastfeeding support along with practical newborn care tips and taking care of necessary household tasks such as: grocery shopping; meal preparation; doing the dishes, laundry or tending to your older children. It helps ease your transition into motherhood. - courtesy of Emmerloo

A quick one too but I just wanted to add......I also know that there are preg/birth doulas, they do not have to be post-partum doulas.

Similar definition, just that someone has been through the labor/birthing process many times and is just there to "help" you through it. They help to see that your wishes are respected along with your dh or s/o. This person does not take the place of a midwife or a doctor.

There are a few people here with doula training or certification that could help you better to understand this one. I will try to find a link to a hgelpful site - it's attached to their sigs. - courtesy of Carol (SEEBEE3)

Midwife

Midwives are an appealing option for women and their partners who want a more individual, less routine approach for the birth of their child rather than a more traditional obstetrician. They also provide a woman's care throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. They have obstetricians available for consultation and backup as needed. Midwives believe that women should be partners in caring for themselves during pregnancy and childbirth. They encourage women to learn about the physical and emotional changes they're experiencing, they encourage women to create their own birth plans, and they believe a birth will go well, rather then expect complications. - courtesy of Emmerloo

Birthing Center The Birth Center is a homelike facility, existing within a healthcare system with a program of care designed in the wellness model of pregnancy and birth. Birth centers are guided by principles of prevention, sensitivity, safety, appropriate medical intervention, and cost effectiveness. Birth centers provide family-centered care for healthy women before, during and after normal pregnancy, labor and birth. - courtesy of Emmerloo
FAM An effective, low-tech method of birth control and/or pregnancy acheivment that allows women to be in control of thier cycles. By simply taking a few minutes a day to monitor their basal body temperature (BBT), cervical mucous (cm) and cervical position (cp), a woman knows whether she is in a fertile, and based on whether or not she is trying to conceive (ttc), she will know whether it is "safe" to have intercourse.
